Driving Lessons and Your Car Insurance

Lower Your Car Insurance Premiums

Everyone wants to get better car insurance rates.  It’s one of those facts of life.
Driving classes, and specifically defensive driving classes, are often recognised by insurance companies.  So much, in fact, that they are often willing to offer a decent discount should a policy holder complete one.  While you may already have discounts linked to insurance bundling, good grades, years without a claim, or a security system, it’s important not to miss something like this.

Prevent Your Rates from Being Raised

Indeed, on the other side of the story is those who are in danger of having their rates raised.  It’s not a particularly pleasant situation.
This is often the case after a car accident occurs.  Sometimes you will be able to take such a class – once again a defensive driving class – to prevent such a thing from happening.  It is similar to taking a class in order to get rid of a speeding ticket from your record, which also has implications with your insurance.

Finding Classes in Your Area

Luckily you don’t have to jump through too many hoops to find such a class.  No, this isn’t like finding a great insurance agent (i.e. referrals and homework before you select one).
It’s as simple as finding a photographer.  Perhaps the easiest thing to do is search online for your city and the term “driving classes.”  Alternatively, you may very well know of a driving school that is nearby.

Is It Compatible?

Imagine how unfortunate it would be for you to take a defensive driving class that turns out to make no difference to your insurance.  Maybe it’s not cleared by your insurer, and you can’t get the discount.  Or perhaps your insurer won’t allow you to prevent your rates from rising with the class.
Yes, you can guess where this is going.  In such situations, you should absolutely check with your insurer.  Make sure that taking the defensive driving class will allow you to get the desired effect.  You don’t want to be out of the money that is needed to pay for the class, without the expected result (though learning is priceless, right?).
Also ensure that the specific driving class you’ve chosen will work.  Who knows – perhaps there is a list of approved schools you must use to be eligible for the discount, for instance.  It won’t hurt to make sure, though.
Overall, driving classes can be an important factor in several aspects of your car insurance.  In these examples, as well as others, it can have a positive effect on your car insurance rates.  Don’t miss out on these possibilities – find out whether driving lessons will work for you.
