21 Rider 2012 MotoGP Season

The latest confirmation in the CRT camp is Danilo Petrucci, who will campaign the Ioda Racing entry.

The Italian joins eight other Claiming Rules Teams entries: Colin Edwards, who will retain his number 5 plate aboard the BMW-engine/Suter-chassis Forward Racing project; a two-man Kawasaki/FTR effort from BQR piloted by Ivan Silva and Yonny Hernandez; Randy de Puniet and Aleix Espargaro on Aprilia-powered Aspar Team; another Aprilia-based project from Speed Master with Australian Anthony West and the controls; and James Ellison, who will pilot the Paul Bird Motorsport machine – also Aprilia. The Gresini Honda team’s second bike will also be a CRT, with Michel Pirro on a Honda-powered FTR chassis.

The remaining 12 riders on the grid will race factory-built bikes, with Honda, Yamaha and Ducati each supporting four riders – two factory riders and two satellites. Casey Stoner will campaign the first season of the 1000cc era sporting the number 1 plate aboard his Repsol Honda. The 2010 champion, Yamaha’s Jorge Lorenzo, returns to number 99.

Moto2 champ Stephan Bradl is notable as the only rookie to score a non-CRT mount. The German will contest his first MotoGP campaign aboard the LCR Honda (with Stoner and Andrea Dovizioso both making memorable rookie runs under the LCR banner). Fellow rookies and Moto2 call-ups include Hernadez, Petrucci and Pirro.
