Espargaró leads first Moto2™ Free practice at Estoril,After both the Moto3™ and MotoGP™ classes had partly-wet track conditions to contend with, the Moto2 contingent enjoyed a mostly-dry Estoril track for their first outing. Espargaró made the most of this and set the fastest time of 1.43´447, just under two tenths quicker than Team CatalunyaCaixa Repsol´s championship leader Marquez.

Marc VDS Racing Team´s Scott Redding was third fastest, followed by his teammate Mike Kallio in fourth. In fifth, JiR Moto2´s rookie Johann Zarco picked up where he left off in Jerez with an impressive first outing at the Portuguese track.
Sixth place went to Interwetten-Paddock´s Tom Lüthi, ahead of Tech 3 Racing´s Xavier Simeon and 2010 Moto2 champion Toni Elías. Elías has so far not had the return to the Moto2 class he had hoped for, but will be pleased with his improved first showing. The top ten was rounded out by NGM Mobile Forward Racing´s Alex De Angelis and Blusens Avintia´s Julián Simón.
Apart from a last lap crash by Federal Oil Gresini Moto2´s Gino Rea, the session was run largely incident-free, with only De Angelis and Corti running off track briefly in the latter stages.
With the top ten separated by less than one second, the intermediate class is once again promising to provide some close battles come race day.
