This newly released teaser image from Lexus shows a concept car that will make its debut at the Detroit auto show in January. For now, Lexus hasn’t shared any more information on the concept car, although the aggressive styling in the teaser photo could preview a new Lexus sports car.
The new car, which was styled at Toyota’s Calty design studio in California, is said to showcase the new Lexus styling direction. We believe that will lead to more aggressive styling with additional design flair like character lines and creases — the styling on the new 2013 Lexus GS, for instance, gained updates like bigger air intakes and bolder hood strakes. In fact, the air vents, squinty headlights, and low-profile tires seen in this teaser image almost bring to mind the front-end styling of the LFA supercar.
Our guess is that the new Lexus concept car is some sort of small sports car that slots in beneath the wild LFA. It remains to be seen whether such a car would be positioned above or below the CT200h hybrid. We’ve previously heard that Lexus is developing both a front-wheel-drive performance-oriented car, as well as a rear-wheel-drive coupe, both of which are rumored to debut around 2014. Expect more details to emerge as we get closer to the Detroit show.
