Chassis / Suspension

Lightweight cast aluminum twin-spar frame provides optimum rigidity balance for incredible sports management. The engine is a stretched part of the chassis, so that a lighter main frame design while maintaining the stability and quality of the light, agile handling.

Triumph Daytona 675's mechanicals were thrust into the spotlight, necessitating a cosmetic refresh of the components normally hidden beneath a fairing. Because the polished finish of its Galespeed wheels set a certain visual tone, that look was echoed with the Woodcraft rearsets and billet engine and stator cases, which were offset with anodized stainless steel pucks.

To refine up the visuals, several hoses surrounding the Daytona 675cc inline three-cylinder were re-routed. A polished can of Red Bull was utilized for overflow collection, and Cook chose to frame the newly fetishized powerplant with café racer-style bodywork.

Taking the stock fiberglass fairing and extending its tail section, Cook drew cut lines and resculpted it for an elongated profile. His company's trademark windscreen was installed, its curved shape reflecting an evolution of the Double Bubble screen that debuted on Ienatsch's 1995 bike.

Once the styling was finalized, Cook tapped Chris Wood at Air Trix for a distinctive paint scheme. Wood had been responsible for the metalflake paint on the Zero Gravity-sponsored Honda CBR600 SuperSport bikes campaigned by Ben and Eric Bostrom in 1997, and the Daytona pays tribute to the Bostrom bikes with a metalflake gold layer sitting atop white and silver striations, broken up with two thin red stripes. Atop the chiseled tank is a two-tone gold leaf Zero Gravity logo, and both wheels are guarded by Nexray carbon fiber fenders. Mike Lira was responsible for the Daytona's final assembly.


The custom Daytona's one-off bodywork and streamlined engine components lend it a sleeker, slicker look than the factory's naked Street Triple, and the mechanical alterations include greater power working in concert with a significant reduction in weight.


But how does this retro-styled Triumph Daytona 675 ride address the road?


I threw a leg over the Zero Gravity Daytona 675, and its first hint of personality came from the deep rumble of the underseat LeoVince exhaust. Even at idle the pipes are loud, and a blip of the throttle summons a bellow that echoes for blocks. The auditory effect certainly makes for a stirring ride, and the Triumph's acceleration feels smooth and urgent, adding a noticeably more flexible spread of torque than the stock version.


Cutting through the pancake-flat onion fields of Camarillo just a few miles from the Malibu coast, the engine's pull becomes most insistent when revs approach the 9000 rpm range, but a glimpse of a red and blue light bar ahead discourages gross displays of decibels. Patience and extended dragging of front and rear brakes finally brings the bike to Potrero Road, an undulating canyon two-laner that aggressively twists into a mélange of off camber and decreasing radius turns, replete with dramatic elevation changes and blind corners. The Daytona responds with a tilt and a yawn; the swift and agile middleweight flicks through the corners effortlessly; its sticky Dunlop Sportmax GP-A rubber, and slightly thicker rear tire, gluing the bike to tarmac. The pipe emits an ever-meaner note against the canyon walls, and the bike's front wheel becomes pleasingly light with throttle provocation.


It is an all-too-brief ride aboard Zero Gravity's trick Daytona 675, but that brevity is probably all the better, since confidence accumulates quickly and there is a precipitous line between self-assured speed and metalflake paint-scraping error. Returning to Zero Gravity headquarters brings back untested engine pucks and unscathed bodywork, and the ease with which the Triumph carries its speed makes the motorcycle feel less like a show bike and more like a go bike. As a two-wheeled homage to bygone racers goes, that statement is worth its weight in titanium.

Custom Supercharging Yamaha R1 Big Wheels


Custom Supercharging Yamaha R1 Big Wheels,The German tuner RF Biketech has produced a grungy Terminator style homoglogation based on the sleek, sexy, and refined R1. The modification is based on 2006 model year bikes (which come sans a cross plane crank, but with a 1 liter engine with the signature 5 valves per cylinder Yamaha heads, and a 12.4:1 factory static compression ratio). The factory-spec engine already pumps out 180hp (with ram air, and a 172 without) at a rev happy 12,5000 rpms due to the short 53.6mm stroke.

Although this is not new news by any means, there are still many of these bikes exchanging hands on the second hand market, and winding up in the hands of enthusiasts looking for project bikes (which is a different market segment from people looking to buy a brand new super sport bike and thus less likely to modify it).
It is a common saying that there is no replacement for displacement, but in fact, the four main contributors to power delivery are: Displacement, RPM, Compression, and Boost. And with the bike already running high compression, and a high rpm redline, then the obvious choice for further power maximization would come from the other two power contributors: namely dispalcement or boost pressure.


271 0 300x297 Supercharging the Yamaha R1Leaving the bottom end on the R1 engine untouched, and retaining the factory displacement of 998cc, RF Biketech have gone ahead and supercharged the motorcycle. By designing a custom take off adapter that connects a rotating pulley assembly to the crank of the R1, they are now able to drive positive pressure into the engine’s combustion chamber via an Eaton roots style supercharger. Working within the original design concept of the R1 with its linear and predictable power delivery, and fairly low RPM redline (compared to other screamer bikes that build power to 18000 rpms) then the choice of the positive displacement Eaton makes a great match for this motor. The Eaton boosts power linearly in all RPM ranges and raises peak power while retaining the tractability of its delivery.

Boost pressure is set at a conservative 0.3 bar (or 4.5psi) of boost which increases power to 230hp @12,500 rpms. [According to the power calculator, a slight reduction of static compression down to 11.7:1 and a 1 step colder spark plug would be ideal for this conversion]. The modifications by RF-Tech also include a custom modified air box with a differently placed ram air scoop, as well as a pre-tuned power commander engine management system for fuel and timing adjustments. A new cat-back exhaust system (with EU emissions approval) rounds out the power modifications and includes a new set of midpipes and rear silencers.
Now that the 1-liter bike performs more like a 1300cc monster, the tuners turn their attention to the integrity and reliability of the drive-train. To increase traction under hard acceleration, the bike has been modified with a 12″ rear rim in place of the factory 10.5″. This allows you to install a wider 360mm tire (up from a 280mm factory tire) for a wider contact patch with the pavement.


275 0 199x300 Supercharging the Yamaha R1In order to fit this size rim on the back of the bike, a new cog spacer is also fabricated, as well as a wider and extended swing arm. The new swing arm has an adjustable mounting position for the rear axle allowing the owner to alter or ‘tune‘ the length of the bike for best compromise between traction (with a longer wheel base) and cornering agility (from a shorter bike with more rapid transitions) and is also available as a single sided wing-arm option (for improved appearance and reduced weight) To keep the bike neutral in handling after the rear tire upgrade, the front tire has also been upgraded with a 5.5″ rim capable of mounting tires up to 180mm wide.
Some may criticize these modifications as affecting the overall agility of the very refined R1. In this case, the tuner has offered all of these modifications as individual packages allowing you to upgrade the power of your R1 without changing the dimensions, the footprint, or the factory handling dynamics of the bike. However, considering that it is now virtually performing as a 1300cc bike in a 1000cc chassis, then you might want to at least consider some stickier tires and a wider rear chain to hold the power. A change in rear gear ratios may also be a good idea to find the best match between torque delivery, traction, and top end acceleration.

Ducati Monster S4R is a special machine in its own right, using a water-cooled four-valve superbike-derived motor, this custom by Paolo Tesio caught our eye as something singularly different from the Italian brand’s fine work. First creating a custom subframe, tail section, and fork guards in CAD, Tesio’s finished motorcycle compliments the original design of the Monster S4R quite well, in a balanced “evolution, not revolution” sort of way.



Complete with an underslung box-style exhaust, the look is clean, different, but still very true to the Monster’s café roots. Our favorite part is perhaps the least functional, as the fork guards give a girder front-end feel, and are tastefully emblazoned with the retro Ducati logo. While we wait for those exciting new models from Team Orange, Italian industrial designer Micro Sapio has penned this concept of a KTM SuperDuke 1200 R. Unfortunately, all we have is the front and back shots, which make fully-appreciating the renders a bit of a challenge.
